Sk8Strong Glut Medius article follow up

May 3, 2010

For those of you who read last month's article about the relationship of the glut medius muscle to figure skating, I received some interesting information from the creator of the 'Off-Ice Edge Trainer.' (Find article at www.sk8strong.com/articles.html). A recent study was created to determine the effectiveness of the Edge Trainer in training the glut medius. The study used electromyography (EMG) to measure the contraction of the muscle. A skater was tested both on and off the Edge Trainer, simulating an axel takeoff. Results from the study show a greater amount of glut medius contraction while on the Edge Trainer than on dry land, proving that it will significantly strengthen the muscle. The Off-Ice Edge Trainer is an effective training tool that can isolate and strengthen muscle groups that are necessary for correct skating technique and performance.
